FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Ordering, shipping, materials, care, kits and custom work. If your question is not here, email us.

Ordering

Do I have to request a quote?

No. Everything on the site has a price and an Add to cart button — pick what you want, check out, done. There is no inquiry step and no waiting on a reply.

The one exception is genuinely bespoke work, which needs a specification agreed first. That is the Custom Orders page, and it is optional.

Can I order from several departments in one go?

Yes, and it is the cheaper way to do it. A necklace, a notebook and a bag of jump rings go in one cart, one shipping charge, one box. Free shipping over $49 applies to the order total across all departments.

How long until my order ships?

Ready-made items ship within [2–4] business days. DIY kits are packed to order, same window. Custom and personalized orders take [5–7] business days before shipping.

Total time to your door = processing time + carrier transit time. See the Shipping Policy for transit estimates.

Can I change or cancel an order?

Email [your@email.com] with your order number as soon as possible. If it has not been packed yet we can change or cancel it. Once it has shipped it becomes a return.

Shipping

How much is shipping?

Standard is $5.95 (5–8 business days), and free on orders over $49. Expedited is $14.95 (2–3 business days).

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not currently. We ship within the U.S. only.

My tracking has not moved in days. What now?

If tracking shows no movement for 7 business days, email [your@email.com] with your order number and we will open an investigation with the carrier. Do not wait it out — carrier claim windows have deadlines.

Payment

What payment methods do you accept?

PayPal, and credit or debit cards processed through PayPal — a PayPal account is not required to pay by card.

Is my card information safe?

We never see it. Card details go directly to PayPal, which processes the payment; we receive your name, shipping address, the amount and a confirmation. See the Privacy Policy.

Do you charge sales tax?

Applicable sales tax is calculated at checkout from your shipping address and shown before you pay.

Materials & sensitivity

I have sensitive skin. What jewelry should I buy?

Stainless steel and solid sterling silver are the safest starting points for most people with mild sensitivity. Plated pieces have a base metal underneath, which is where reactions usually come from — as the plating wears, the base metal reaches your skin.

Every product page states the exact composition. If you have a diagnosed allergy to a specific metal, email us before ordering and we will confirm what is in the piece. We cannot advise on medical questions — that is a conversation for your doctor — but we can tell you exactly what the metal is.

What is the difference between plated, filled and solid?

Plated is a microscopically thin layer of precious metal over a base metal; it wears through with time. Filled (e.g. 14K gold filled) is a substantially thicker bonded layer — far more durable, and it will not wear through under normal use. Solid means the whole piece is that alloy.

We use these words the way they are legally defined, so you can compare our listings against anyone else’s.

Are your stones and pearls real?

Each listing says exactly what it is. “Cultured freshwater pearl” means a real pearl grown with human help — which is what nearly all pearls on the market are. “Simulated” or “glass” means an imitation, and we say so. We do not use the words “real”, “genuine” or “natural” unless the stone is naturally occurring.

What are the bags made of?

The fibre content and the fabric weight are on every listing. Weight is what decides whether a tote holds a laptop without sagging, so we state it rather than leaving you to guess from a photograph.

What wax do you use in the candles?

The wax type and the fragrance load are stated on each listing, along with a burn time we measured ourselves. If you are sensitive to fragrance, the unscented options say so in the title.

Care

Jewelry: how do I keep it looking new?

Put jewelry on last and take it off first. Perfume, lotion, hairspray, chlorine and salt water are what damage finishes — not ordinary wear.

Wipe pieces with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and store them dry and separate (a pouch or a lined box, not a pile in a drawer). Take rings and bracelets off before washing dishes, swimming, or working out.

The plating on my piece is wearing. Is that a defect?

No. Plated finishes wear with use — that is the nature of plating, and it is why we label plated items as plated instead of calling them gold. If you want something that will not wear through, choose gold filled, solid sterling silver, or stainless steel.

Sterling silver has gone dark. Is it ruined?

That is tarnish, not damage. Silver reacts with sulphur in air. A silver polishing cloth brings it back in a minute or two.

Can I wash a fabric bag or a scrunchie?

Cold hand wash, mild detergent, reshape damp and air dry out of direct sun. No machine, no tumble dryer, no bleach — heat is what shrinks the fabric and warps the interfacing. Satin scrunchies: hand wash only, always.

How do I burn a candle properly?

First burn 2–3 hours so the wax pools to the edge of the vessel — short first burns are what cause tunnelling. Trim the wick to about ¼ in before each burn, keep it away from draughts, and stop burning when about ½ in of wax remains. Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children or pets.

DIY kits & supplies

Do I need tools or experience?

No experience, and no separate tool purchase — the tools a project needs are in the box. Each kit page lists the contents, the finished dimensions and roughly how long it takes.

What if I break or lose a component?

Email [your@email.com] with your order number and which part it is. We keep spares and will send a replacement.

Are kits suitable for children?

Kits contain small parts and, depending on the project, sharp tools. They are not suitable for children under [age], and younger makers should work with an adult. Each kit page states its recommended age.

Can I buy just the supplies?

Yes — Craft Supplies sells beads, findings, tools and hardware loose, in the quantities stated on each listing.

Sizing

How do I find my ring size?

Measure the inside diameter of a ring that already fits, and match it on our Sizes & Fit page. Measuring the ring is much more reliable than measuring the finger.

What size tote or pouch do I need?

The Sizes & Fit page translates the dimensions into what each size actually holds — laptop, book, cables, cards.

Can a ring be resized?

Plain bands can often be adjusted; rings with stones set around the band generally cannot. Email us with the item and the size you need before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether it is possible.

Returns

What is your return window?

[30] days from delivery, for unused items in original packaging. Some items cannot be returned once opened for hygiene or safety reasons — pierced earrings, and candles that have been burned. See the Return & Refund Policy.

Something arrived damaged.

Email us within [7] days with your order number and photos of both the item and the shipping box. We will replace it or refund you in full, including shipping — your choice. Usually no return shipment needed.

Custom orders

Can you make something to my specification?

Often, yes — though most people find what they want in the shop, which is faster and cheaper. For genuinely bespoke work, send the details through the custom order form and we will reply with feasibility, price and a timeline before any work starts.

Can custom orders be returned?

Change-of-mind returns are not possible on custom work, because the piece was made for you. If a custom piece arrives damaged, or does not match the specification you approved, we will fix it or refund you in full. Full terms are in the Return & Refund Policy.
